Let’s Face It! We Are Glued To Our Screens!
A social media user spends approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes on these apps, with an average screen time of almost 7 hours! Yes, that’s more than 1/4th of a day! Reading these statistics makes you feel like disabling and deleting all social media accounts because we are hooked to these gripping apps.
On a train, at a coffee shop, in a queue, at lunch tables, just look around, all we see are people staring into their phones, timelessly scrolling through the For You Page that has no end. It all starts with, “I’ll take a short break and scroll through reels for 5 minutes, that’s all!” which leads to hours of time passing by and you tend to ignore everyone and everything around
Your Followers Don’t Necessarily Count As Friends
You may have 500 friends on Facebook or 1,200 followers on Instagram or a streak score of 100,000 on Snap! The question that arises is, how many of them do you actually talk to, you hang out with, and can count them as friends and family who will stick with you till the end? Social media is killing relationships! People sit at dining tables and use their phones, on dates, during discussions, and in class, there is no end to it. And oh, how we click pictures for our story instead of enjoying the food or the place!
How Is It Affecting Us Socially?
DM-ing or Texting seems the easier way to get to know someone, just way less effort than sitting and talking. Ask yourself, have you lost the ability to go up to someone and just say, “Hey!” or talk to a stranger sitting next to you on the bus? We have become anti-social! Social Media has ruined the whole point of being Social Beings!
We now care about how many likes we get to the picture of that outing or that vacation than actually enjoying it! It’s time to bring change! Look around, the world is prettier outside your phone. Talking to people creates a connection that texting can’t! Sending heart and laughing emojis isn’t the ideal way of loving and laughing.
