The NBA has reportedly finalized an 11-year, $76 billion media rights deal that could exclude Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and its TNT network. The new agreement appears to favor Comcast’s NBCUniversal, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney’s ESPN, although WBD still has a window to match one of the current offers.
Rich Greenfield, a media and technology analyst at LightShed Partners, expressed skepticism about WBD’s willingness to invest $1.8 billion in a reduced rights package with fewer playoff games.
In parallel, the WNBA is set to benefit significantly from its new media rights deal, which will bring in $2.2 billion over the next 11 years. This marks a substantial financial boost for the league and underscores the growing value of women’s sports.
