Euphoria fans will have to wait well into next year for their dose of the hit show, however, that hasn’t stopped both Drake and Zendaya getting their promo game on. Whilst many know that the ex-Disney star features in the show, it is less well-known that Drake is, in fact, an executive producer. Both famous stars posted to their social media to announce the news, which was met with praise and excitement by fans of Euphoria. Instagram user @dayacurls commented on the post ‘buckle your seat belts people!! Never been so ready!!’, whilst another user, @angelgibbs99, wrote ‘OMG, I can’t frickin’ wait’. HBO is sure to expect high volumes of anticipated viewers once the doubleheader is finally released.
Vice asked teenagers why Euphoria is so popular, and they all seemed to agree that it was a more accurate representation of what being a young person is like in today’s society. Riva Rubin stated that “Teens now look for releases from the stress of living in such a fast-paced time. Euphoria takes the stress out of the equation and just shows these sexual or drug-influenced coping mechanisms and makes them the central focus. It draws an audience in because it shows what really happens with teens today, just put all together.”
This news comes exactly one month after Zendaya took the TV world by storm with her impressive Emmy’s win. Her portrayal of teenage drug addict Rue in the hit show enabled her to become the youngest woman to win best actress in a drama series. At the virtual ceremony, she said “I just want to say there is hope in the young people out there – I know that our TV show doesn’t always feel like a great example of that – but there is hope in our young people and I just want to say to all my peers out there doing the work in the streets, ‘I see you, I admire you, I thank you.'”
It is safe to say that Zendaya has really won over generation Z.
