Ryan Reynolds has finally achieved the ultimate feat: bringing together two iconic characters, Deadpool and Wolverine, in the latest trailer for “Deadpool & Wolverine.” It took seven years of persuasion, but Reynolds succeeded in convincing Hugh Jackman to reprise his role as Wolverine.
Before unveiling the new trailer, Reynolds shared a post-credits scene from Deadpool 2 (2018), where Deadpool time-travels to correct past mistakes, including the ill-received X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). In that film, Reynolds played Wade Wilson, famously depicted with his mouth sewn shut, much to the dismay of fans.
“Eventually, you’re going to hang up the claws, and it’s going to make a lot of people very sad. But one day, your old pal Wade is going to ask you to get back in the saddle again. And when he does, say yes,” Deadpool urges Logan in the post-credits scene.
Despite Jackman’s retirement from the role of Wolverine after 2017’s Logan, Reynolds persisted in his pursuit to have him join a Deadpool film, eventually succeeding.
Directed by Shawn Levy, the upcoming movie, slated for release on July 26, marks Marvel Studios’ first foray into R-rated territory. Marvel chief Kevin Feige teased the project at CinemaCon, expressing his excitement with a few F-bombs.
Said Feige: “It’s fucking awesome.”
