Saweetie is adding actress to her resume with her debut in the Freeform show Grown-ish. The “Tap In” artist will make a guest appearance as a bossy female rapper.
On Jan. 4, Saweetie took to Twitter to spark conversation about her new role and what to expect. The tweet showcased a snippet of her role as a rapper named Indigo. She’s shown alongside Joey Bada$$ on a music video set with stylist Zoey Johnson, played by Yara Shahidi. From the clip, we can see a bossy side to Indigo that demands a wardrobe change.

“I think Indigo is just a little bit of a bitch. She means well, but just sometimes she says the wrong things,” Saweetie told EW in an interview. “My favorite thing about [playing] Indigo was when both her and Yara were on the same page and having a good time. You can just see the love and excitement that Indigo has for [Zoey]. I think the dynamic is like a cool, bossy, sometimes mean big sister to Yara. She loves her, but she just has a hard time showing you.”
Grown-ish will kick off its season 3 featuring the “Icy Girl.” The show will focus on Zoey dropping out of college to pursue her career as a celebrity stylist for Joey Bada$$ and Indigo in Miami. It’s unclear how many episodes Saweetie will appear in, but her guest appearance is something to look forward to.
You can watch Saweetie and the rest of the Grown-ish crew for the new season on Jan. 21, 2021, on Freeform. It will also be available the next day on Hulu.
