Sony has announced that the sequel to Into the SpiderVerse will be on the big screen.
However, it won’t be coming as soon as you might like. Part two of the Academy-Award winning film will be debuting in theaters on April 8th, 2022. Now, that does feel very far away, but the creators have supplied us with a trailer that is sure to keep interested right up until it’s time to buy the movie tickets.
The recently released trailer hints at a deeper dive of a budding romance between the alternate reality version of Super Spider-Woman, Gwen Stacy. The teaser trailer also features flickers of Spider-Man versions that were shown in the first movie as well as quite a few new ones. Fans took this and ran with the speculation of what could possibly be to come.
Super-fans were able to spot out a specific character, Spider-Man: Takuya Yamashiro. He is an alternate reality character that didn’t get bit by a spider, but got his powers via a blood transfusion. He then uses his abilities to fight the aliens that killed his father when he was young.
Into the Spider-Verse was originally released in 2018, made over $375 Million in the box office, and quickly became one of the top movies of the year. Some fans even believed that it was the best Spider-Man movie made to date. Before the movie won any of its awards, among them a Golden Globe, the sequel was already well under its way.
The producers of the movie, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, were especially surprised at the amount of success that the movie achieved. They love that fans are hoping for more movies outside of the traditional Spider-Man. “Look, we wanted to make a movie that felt like it was the tip of the iceberg,” Lord explained. “You could imagine all of these other things. So, it’s music to our ears that people could imagine a Spider-Noir film and the Spider-Ham insane cartoon.”
If you haven’t seen the first movie, you’re definitely late to the game, but you’re in luck because the movie is available on Netflix. Be sure to check it out to get yourself prepared for the upcoming film.
