The MCU isn’t the only universe expanding. With its upcoming Flashpoint movie in the works the DCU is expanding into a multiverse paving the way for the emergence of new heroes. Among these new faces is Blue Beetle or Jaime Reyes. First introduced in 2006, Reyes received his powers after coming into contact with an alien scarab, which was later revealed to be a piece of alien tech. After his first comics appearance, Reyes quickly became a fan favorite and worked alongside famous superhero groups such as Teen Titans and the Justice League. Now Reyes will find a new home in the DCU along with many of his fellow superheroes. While Warner Bros has yet to reveal who will be playing the young hero, they have announced that Angel Manuel Soto from Charm City Kings will be directing the movie.
While details about the movie are scarce, fans are excited to see DCU incorporating the stories of diverse superheroes. This gradual wave of inclusive stories has also brought about the recent casting of Sasha Calle in the role of Supergirl, in the upcoming ‘Flash’ film as well as the Ta- Nehesi Coates and J.J. Abrahams collaboration for the upcoming Superman reboot. Additionally, actor Michael B. Jordan will also be developing the story of the beloved superhero Static Shock into a movie, though it is unclear if this character will be a part of the larger DC Cinematic Universe. While fans can’t wait to see these major heroes hit the big screen, in the meantime, they can enjoy this summer’s Suicide Squad 2 release. With the upcoming Synder Cut set to be released this March and The Batman set to be released in 2022 it looks like the DCU is closing one chapter and stepping boldly into another.
