The city of Atlanta is home to many individuals with creative minds and unique ideas who continue to push the culture forward. Known as the Hollywood of the South, Atlanta is quickly becoming a mecca in fashion, music, arts, and more. Every day, young people are creating and developing their craft in order to display a product the world may come to know and love. Deluxy Adams, aka Delo, is another one of these rising young stars who is putting his staple on streetwear fashion with his brand [enjoy] and exciting, new sounds musically.
I got the opportunity to sit down and talk with Delo about the brand, some of his inspirations, upcoming projects and more. Check out what he had to say in our latest interview here:
Jelani: Tell me and the readers a little bit about yourself and what do.
Delo: My name is Deluxy Adams, but most people call me Delo. I’ve been making music since I was 15 years old and also began making clothes my graduating year in 2015. My passion for music and clothes has pushed me to build my own platform with my creativity.
Jelani: Tell me about the brand. What’s the idea behind it all?
Delo: My Brothers and I create [enjoy] as a lifestyle brand to relate to any person on this earth. The brand is centered around colors because that’s what the world itself is made out of; different colors represent different moods, so we use [enjoy] to represent all these emotions into apparel.
Jelani: What and/or who inspires you to create and pursue designing your own clothing line?
Delo: Through this journey, I’ve been influenced by many, but the people who have touched me the most are Pharrell Williams and Nigo Goldeneye. Nigo started A Bathing Ape which became a big part of the hip-hop culture in the early 2000s. He started the brand making clothes for his friends in Japan and now he’s a multi-millionaire. The abstract designs and colorful camo made me think of doing streetwear myself and now here I am!
Jelani: What is the process like? How much work really goes into creating these pieces?
Delo: The first thing I think about when creating a piece, I think about what I want it to represent. [enjoy] is about happiness and welcoming all types of people. I try to make my designs minimalistic with a different variation of colors. [enjoy], being a simple concept, it could mean whatever an individual wants it to mean. I try to view my creative process as if I were the customer.
Jelani: Who all are involved? Who helps you bring the brand to life?
Delo: There are three people, including myself, that really put in the work. I am the creator of the whole concept. Josue is the creative director; he handles visuals and aesthetics. Another contributor is Nic Banks who handles stock and promotion. We design all of our stuff in adobe illustrator. All of our designers are in-house currently. We work with Luker for all embroidery pieces and all screen print pieces.
Jelani: What other hobbies or interests do you have?
Delo: I also make music that ranges from rapping and singing. I plan to release heavily mid-2018, so be on the lookout. I base my music around heavy visuals so it catches the viewers attention more.
Jelani: What’s next in store? What can people expect next from [enjoy]?
Delo: Next up, we have the website dropping for [enjoy] mid-February. Here, you’ll be able to easily access our product, giving us much more exposure. Be on the lookout on Instagram and Twitter @enjoyincolor.
From our interview, I could sense Delo was very much involved, focused, and dedicated to his brand and music, which both are greatly intertwined. He and his team continue to work and build every day to produce a product that can be worn and loved by everyone. I do believe [enjoy] has the potential and power to be a globally known brand. Delo and [enjoy] are off to a fast start and have plenty more big news and surprises on the way in 2018.
