We haven’t seen this since 2003.
Not this level of dominance by a rookie. And I’m pretty sure everyone remembers who that rookie was.
Now 15 years later, we have a new rookie who will undoubtedly dominate the NBA for years to come.
Ben Simmons, the first overall pick in the 2016 draft. He missed all of last season with a broken foot, but it was more than worth the wait. 18 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists, a stat line most NBA players can only dream of, Simmons totaled that in his first game. That first game was just a sign for things to come.
Simmons is averaging 17.8 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 7.5 assists, tops in each category among rookies. He’s the complete package. He’s tall (6’11), athletic, and strong.

He finishes with ease in the paint, and his passing ability might be the best aspect of his game.
What a night for Ben Simmons. Amazing passing. Timely scoring. Triple-double (21, 12 & 10). Making an enormous impact even without a jumper. pic.twitter.com/u2EXwijuij

The Sixers put all their trust in the process.
And they were rewarded with the NBA’s next superstar.
