On-Demand delivery apps are expanding all around the U.S with more than five different apps on the market competing against each other for customers and employees’ satisfaction. Some of these technologies include Postmates, DashDoor, and Amazon Flex. People usually peruse these types of jobs as a part-time and some people would do it as a full-time, but with so many different apps, it’s a bit confusing to choose which one to go for well-paid hustling.
The delivery apps Postamtes and DashDoor both offer three delivery methods: Walking, Biking, or driving a car. Each provides a similar service, but there are differences between the two jobs that might make one job better for you than another. When you’re a delivery driver for either Postmates, DoorDash, you’ll receive and complete delivery requests using a mobile application. All incoming orders come in through the app, and the app is where you see what you need to pick up and where you need to take it. On the other hand, Amazon Flex requires doing their deliveries with a car and the salaries can be a bit higher than the delivery apps. Let’s start comparing these three jobs.
DoorDash
DoorDash app is easier to use because it presents all of the necessary information in a simple, easy-to-follow manner. The DoorDash app breaks the order down into a step-by-step list that makes it very obvious what you’re supposed to do next. There aren’t too many buttons or options on the screen, so it’s always easy to see how to contact the customer or how to double-check the order. You are paid a flat fee, around $6-$10, for each delivery and you receive 100% of all tips. Occasionally longer or more challenging orders will result in a $1–$3 “boost” pay. The app makes it obvious that you’re supposed to tip either inside the app or in person. DoorDash is newer and business can be slower sometime. Summing up, DoorDash delivery people make around $10 – $16 per hour, it’s user-friendly, and applicants go through a simplified hiring process.
Postmates
Postmates app is a bit harder to use because information is separated and hidden behind a series of menus and buttons that aren’t always intuitive. The app makes you press more buttons — for instance, you have to tap to check off every item in the order list. Your fee is calculated based on a flat fee + mileage rate between pickup and drop off + the time it takes you to get from the pickup to the customer. That means you’re not paid for the trip to the pickup location. If demand is high, the app triggers “blitz pricing,” which is a 1.25–1.75x multiplier. Postmates delivery riders make around $10–$18/hour plus customers can tip inside the app after the order is complete. Postmates eliminated their scheduling feature, so all you have to do is log on whenever you want to work. No scheduling is needed. On the overall, Postamtes hustle is more worth it than DashDoor because with the same hiring requirements, a slightly harder app, and a better hourly wage, the rewards is up to $5 better.
Amazon Flex
Let’s jump to Amazon Flex now! Flex drivers pick up packages from stations and deliver them to customers using directions from the Flex app. Amazon Flex shifts come in 4-hour blocks that can be scheduled ahead of time or as shifts become available, and the pay is typically $18 – $25/hour. Flex requires a four-door sedan, a pickup truck, or a minivan. Two-door cars are not accepted because they may not be large enough to fit every package that you’re assigned for your shift. Of course, you need to be over 21, have your own car, insurance, a valid driver license, and possess a smartphone. One big downside is that getting Flex shifts can be difficult. Unlike rideshare, Postmates and DashDoor delivery apps, you can’t just sign on and work. With Flex you have to closely monitor your availability and constantly check the app if you want to pick up a Next Day shift.
Nowadays, there are plenty of work opportunities to choose from and If you are truly looking to earn money, all of these apps allow you to do so, however, some might pay a little more than the other and if you are using a car, expenses minus revenues must be positive otherwise you will need to look for a different hustle.
