New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara is taking his talents from the turf to the asphalt. The star will become NASCAR’s first-ever growth and engagement advisor. The role will give Alvin full control of the direction of NASCAR’s fan engagement strategy. The new role will allow Alvin to grow his NASCAR affection while working closely to help improve relations. With Alvin Kamara working so closely, NASCAR hopes to bring more attention and sponsors in a nation dominated by football and basketball.
This past Sunday, Alvin expressed his gratitude for the new career opportunity on social media.
“I’m excited they carved out a role for me,” Kamara said Sunday. “I got an office. I got a key card. I feel like I never had a job besides the NFL, so I got two jobs now. [Saints coach] Sean Payton going to have to give me some downtime.”
“It’s an honor to be able to team up with NASCAR and be their first-ever Growth and Engagement Advisor,” Kamara said, according to NASCAR. “I’m excited to use my passion as a fan to help shape their long-term efforts to grow the sport.”
Alvin Kamara’s love for the sport of NASCAR has been a recent delight. Alvin became outspoken last June after the banning of Confederate flags at races. NASCAR would extend an invitation to Alvin Kamara to experience his first race where he linked up with Bubba Wallace. Bubba Wallace, a full-time NASCAR driver, gain widespread attention for protest for policy changes within the organization. Alvin Kamara’s support would only continue to grow from there.
Later, Alvin sponsors Ryan Vargas, a driver who at the time didn’t have any funding. Alvin has continued to show his love for the newfound sport. It seems NASCAR feels the same way too. This partnership can benefit both sides in the long run.
“Alvin’s journey to NASCAR happened very organically from that initial curiosity to experiencing our events to developing a real and sincere passion for the sport,” said Pete Jung, chief marketing officer at NASCAR. “That’s what we’re looking to tap into … his insights, perspective and ideas …{sic] and learning more about his experience so that we can enhance what we’re doing to engage and develop new fans.”
It’s unclear how his new role within NASCAR will affect his production and role with the New Orleans Saints. It’s a move, that many fans of the powerhouse running back, maybe weary of. It’s too early to tell in this situation. Given what the new job may entail, Alvin Kamara may have his work cut out for him.
