Week 7 Of BIG3 basketball took place in Lexington, Kentucky at the Rupp Arena. The packed crowd of 8,000 fans got to see a thrilling week of basketball as team’s continue to jockey for playoff positioning.
Game 1: Ball Hogs vs 3 Headed Monsters
One team flat out wanted it more than the other, there’s no other way to put it. Rashard Lewis continues to show why he maybe the MVP of the inaugural season of the BIG3 with another stellar scoring display. Rashard finished with a game high 17 pts and 11 rebs while his teammate, Mahmoud Abdul- Rauf, tallied 14 pts in the 50-34 blowout win. The win extends the 3 Headed Monsters winning streak to five in a row.
Game 2: 3’s Company vs Killer 3s
This was a must win game for both teams as playoff aspirations were on the line. Many wondered if 3’s Company would be able to sustain the positive momentum that they established last week in the absence of their Team Captain/Head Coach, Allen Iverson. The lead changed hands 6 times as Killer 3’s captain, Stephen Jackson, and 3’s Company star scorer, Andre Owens, went toe to toe in a scoring duel. Although “Captain Jack” out scored Owens with his 25 points to Owen’s 20, it didn’t matter in the end as 3’s Company was able to extend their playoff hopes at least another week in the 51-48 victory.
Game 3: Trilogy vs Power
What is there to say ? The Trilogy is the best team no one saw coming. Despite the efforts of Power in their 12-0 run to close the first half, it wasn’t enough as Kenyon Martin and Al Harrington led Trilogy on a 22-2 run to start the second half. The number 1 overall pick in the BIG3 draft, Rashad McCants, made his presence felt with his game winning layup to seal the 50-45 victory for Trilogy.
Game 4: Ghost Ballers vs Tri-State
Week 7 rounded up with a matchup with playoff implications for the Ghost Ballers who came into the week with a 3-3 record. This game featured the physicality and competitiveness of an early 2000s NBA Playoff game. One player that knows all about early 2000s playoff basketball is Bonzi Wells. Bonzi played his best game of the season as he finished with a season high scoring total of 18 pts on 57 % shooting (8-14) . Bonzi’s hustle and tenacity set the tone for his team as the Tri-State were able to play role of spoiler this week in their 51-43 victory.
