The 12th annual Florida Supercon was the biggest event Florida had ever seen. Cosplayers, Otakus, comic book geeks, sci-fi lovers, k-pop fans and much more, united to express their love for their favorite guest celebrities.
This year at Supercon fans welcomed guest star Peter Capaldi, who plays the main character in the hit sci-fi series Doctor Who. The actor was accompanied by fellow cast members Karen Gillan, who played the role of Amy Pond in several seasons, and John Barrowman cast as Captain Jack Harkness.
The very eager paid the 30 some odd dollars for an autographed print and photo with their favorite celeb.
Also, fans had the opportunity to talk with their admired writers and artists during the “Q&A” scheduled sessions.
This year’s guest included actors, comic book writers and artists like Sara Pichelli, David Finch, and Jim Shooter to name a few. Throughout the week, there were many panels to help the fellow underdog start their creations and network with the industry’s biggest and brightest.
Other activities included the video game marathon, held at the convention arcade. This last one was very popular among fellow gamers attending the Con. The challenge featured the new live game everyone is chatting about, Overwatch. Many rose to the challenge to see who could last the longest inside the virtual world.
Another competition seriously awaited was the cosplay challenge. Here participants dressed and acted as their preferred character, an unspoken tradition held at every Supercon. Every year fans everywhere come up with the most creative and ingenues outfits for this event.
During the competition, challengers seek to dethrone last year’s champion, planning their masterpiece months and even a year before in advance. There was a lot of variations put into their costumes. Guest interpreted characters from video games, comic books, anime, Disney, Game of Thrones and many others.
At the heart of the convention, collectors of all types found an infinite number of booths. In the immense Expo, local artisans showcased their fan-based art, highlighting handcrafted artifacts, not found anywhere else.
