In the early to mid 2000s, a new wave of young rappers began to emerge on to the hip-hop scene. Such rappers include Fabolous, Yung Berg, Chingy, Hurricane Chris and others. However, there were only two rappers that blew as childhood sensations and really changed the face of hip-hop forever, rapper and actor Shad Moss, also better known as Bow Wow & Romeo Miller, also known as Lil’ Romeo.
The two rappers began their respective careers under the mentorship of two hip hop moguls – So So Def CEO Jermaine Dupri (who managed Bow Wow) & No Limit Records Percy “Master P” Miller (who is also the father and former manager of his son, Lil’ Romeo).
Bow Wow started his career when he first linked up with rap icon Snoop Dogg in 1993 on song “Gz & Hustlas” off of the Doggystyle album, under the moniker, “Kid Gangsta” at the age of six.
By the age of 13, Bow Wow released his debut album, Beware of the Dog, in 2000, which sold 3 million copies and went triple-platinum. By 2002, Bow Wow then began his acting career by starring as Calvin Cambridge in the basketball comedy Like Mike alongside veteran actor Morris Chestnut. Shortly thereafter, Bow Wow would then starred in movies such as All About the Benjamins, Johnson Family Vacations once he reached deeper into his teenage years.
At the same time, Lil’ Romeo became the babyface for his father’s No Limit Records company and would make his theatrical debut in the 2001 comedy film, Max Keeble’s Big Movie. The same year, Lil Romeo would also release his self-titled debut album, Lil’ Romeo.
After his theatrical debut, Romeo would then star in movies such as Honey, Uncle P, & God’s Gift.
In his later teenage years, Romeo would star in his own Nickelodeon show called Romeo! alongside his father Percy Miller and actor Zachary Isaiah Williams.
In their respective teenage years, Bow Wow and Romeo Miller would mature into bigger acting roles and other business ventures while still maintaining their rap careers. Surprisingly, during the mid-2010s, rumors surfaced the Internet that both Romeo and Bow Wow had been beefing since the early 2000s.
The reason why this rumor spiraled out of control is the release of the song “Fresh Azimiz” by Bow Wow when people began to gossip that Bow Wow was taking shots at Romeo and his father Master P.
However, neither party has confirmed that there was not an issue.
As the #VERZUZ battles keep going, many fans were anticipated a potential Instagram battle between Romeo and Bow Wow.
However, recently, the two former rappers revealed that they were planning on releasing a documentary about their rise in the rap game.
“For the culture, instead of doing a Verzuz, I already hit Bow Wow to do a documentary, side by side, reminiscing on our historic young careers together. Stay turned and this is how we celebrate each other. God is real. #YoungLegend #History #Nostalgia #God,” Romeo said in an Instagram post.
What are your thoughts? Do you think this documentary is going to be good? Is Bow Wow and Romeo going to end all the speculation behind their ‘beef’ ?
