Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to attend singer/songwriter, Emily Thomas, live show at the Bowery Electric in New York City. One of the opening acts of Emily’s show was Dallas, Texas native, Travis McClung. I still remember that night so vividly till this day even down to what I was doing during that exact moment. I was in the middle of a conversation with a friend of mine drinking a Jameson (on the rocks) while Travis and his band was setting up to go on. Within 30 seconds I was already immersed in Travis McClung’s performance. What stood out to me was Travis’ smooth crooning style. He had a knack for knowing just when to mellow out his voice and captivate the audience by hitting those falsetto notes reminiscent of one of Travis’ music influences, Frank Ocean. It’s amazing how one night of seeing an artist LIVE could have a long lasting impact on an individual. I mean damn ! i’m writing this article 5 MONTHS LATER after seeing the guy perform LIVE because I recognize the quality that artists such as Travis McClung have and that is honesty within the music and long lasting appeal that keeps you coming back for more. These qualities and more miake Travis McClung an artist you oughta know.
