Over 20 years ago, the iconic Selena Quintanilla -Perez passed away. The monumental life and legacy of the Tejana singer trickled down into today’s culture. Furthermore, celebrities and fans paid homage to her from Halloween costumes to a limited edition collection at MAC Cosmetics. Two decades after the Selena biopic starring Jennifer Lopez premiered, Netflix is working on a series depicting the life of the star.
Recently, Netflix released a brief teaser which opened up with Selena’s most known song lyric, “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” and the official title of the show; Selena: The Series. “@SelenaLaLeyenda’s incredible life story is coming to Netflix as a scripted series! @selena_netflix was developed alongside, and will be executive produced by, The Quintanilla family,” Netflix wrote.

In The Hollywood Reporter, the show is said to be a coming of age tale. Writer Moises Zamora Of American crime will write script alongside the Quintanilla family.
Prior to her passing, Selena got her first Grammy award for best ever Mexican-American album, which made her the first ever Tejana woman to win in the award. Regrettably, in 1995, she was fatally shot by her fan club manager and friend, Yolanda Saldivar. She is serving a life sentence in Texas facility.
