As a farewell to the 17th NBA season, resulting in the Los Angeles Lakers 17th NBA Championship win. Louis Vuitton has finally unleashed their first and only collaboration with a North American sports league.
The collab was released by WWD (Women’s Wear Daily) in January however, we are finally seeing the fruits of this labor. The capsule collection is designed to reflect Virgil Abloh’s vision of inclusion.
“Fashion muses aren’t predictable. Ideas of luxury can be found in the sports world and its champions as much as in traditional forms of artistry. This collection celebrates the cultural contribution of basketball and its diverse characters, and the idea of relatability as a force of unity today,” Virgil said.
Basketball and other mediums dominated by persons of color offer so much vibrance and culture to our world and society. It only makes sense that these individuals that are adored for their athletic skills and talents earn a fashion or luxury line that celebrates that.
Abloh’s vision for the collection is to encompass the average player’s wardrobe and will capture that spirit across the luxury brand’s elucidation of three main dress codes: travels and transits, game arrivals, and press conferences. The collection features limited-edition takes on apparel, accessories, shoes, trunks, and more.
Hopefully, this is marking a new era of fashion and luxury in the athletic sphere and can aid athletes in exercising different mediums and facets in their careers.
Many are looking forward to the line which includes a luxurious duffel bag that can be used during travel.
Given the fact that basketball is a Black dominated sport, it is great to see a Black man spearheading this new line. The Black community deserves luxury and a seat at the designer table. Can’t wait to cop an LV bag for my travel endeavors as well.
