By now everyone is totally aware of the insane changes that TikTok has made to women’s fashion. From women’s fashion inclusivity to women’s cultural dress appreciation, TikTok has truly made a positive difference in all aspects of women’s fashion, but what about men’s fashion?
A few weeks ago, TikTok creators started the trend #FemmeBoyFriday where men dress in stereotypical women’s clothing. Unlike men who do this for fun in a degrading way, most of the men in this trend take pride in wearing fashion that is not defined by gender-fashion norms. Many people think wearing clothing that by wearing clothing that most women wear men are decreasing their masculinity, however, by embracing a man’s feminine side shows how secure with their masculinity they really are. Here are 4 ways men on TikTok are styling more feminine outfits to prove that fashion doesn’t have gender.
1. Skirts
Male skirts are not only for Scottish men! Skirts are now being used instead of a casual pant or short no matter your gender. Pair it with a classic white long sleeve shirt and a sweater on top and you have got yourself a winning number that will be sure to impress every time!
2. Dresses
Dresses may seem uncommon on males now but in many South Asian cultures, men wear a dress like a garment called a kurta on special occasions. TikTok has made dresses perfectly okay to wear no matter your gender or country. With a pretty dress and a few statement pieces, a dress looks good on everybody.
3. Lace
Lace is one of the most delicate and feminine fabrics known to man but TikTok’s #femmeboyfriday has redefined all things stereotypically assigned to a singular gender. Whether it be a small strip of lace on the bottom of a shirt or a shirt entirely made up of flowy lace, lace is a winning fabric all the time!
