Selfies have just been banned from the 71st Cannes Film Festival so only in this case will the paparazzi be your best friend. With social media being so dominant in today’s society, there has been an amount of backlash behind it. Stopping others from taking pictures off their phones could be difficult, but even with the criticism Thierry Frémaux, director of the Cannes Film Festival, has provided he refuses to budge on this subject matter.
Considering that this has been and issue he’s tried to confront in 2015, he supports his claim stating that selfies, “Tarnish the quality and tempo of ascending the steps…. selfies didn’t exist ten years ago, it’s obviously not the most important thing in the world.”
Since the news is still relatively fresh, Frémaux has not thought of exactly how to implement this. As of right now he just has hopes that those attending will respect his wishes, and this being the 71st anniversary for the Festival, it should be safe to say necessary regulations will be respected in its honor.
