Naomi Campbell, also known as the queen of the runway, has had a tremendous amount of success in her career as a supermodel and mentor. The well-seasoned model has proven to break down the barriers of the fashion industry by still being an in-demand catwalk model and from gracing the covers of Vogue (more than once), Time, and Elle magazine, just to name a few.
Campbell has been considered an icon to most for many years but will officially receive the overdue Fashion Icon Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Naomi Campbell will be joining past recipients Kate Moss, Rihanna, Pharrell, Lady Gaga, David Bowie, and
Iman
“It is truly an honor to be recognized by the CFDA with this year’s Fashion Icon Award,” said Campbell. “Being from London, my personal style has always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature of street culture and the music scene. I grew up in this industry and I’m forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers who have supported me and celebrated me throughout my career.” – Naomi Campbell to British Vogue.
This year CFDA Awards will be hosted by Issa Rae and take place on June 4th in Brooklyn, New York.
