Ice Cube’s 3 on 3 Basketball league, The Big 3, made it’s debut at the Barclays Center in front of a packed crowd of 15,177 people yesterday afternoon. The league features former NBA Stars and legends such as Julius “Dr. J” Erving , Jason “White Chocolate” Williams, Kenyon Martin, Charles Oakley ,Gary Payton, and the face of the league, Allen Iverson. The inaugural day of the league featured a thrilling quadruple header of action filled with entertaining plays and game winning shots. But before we get into the highlights from yesterday’s games, here are the rules for the league.
Game 1: 3 Headed Monsters vs Ghost Ballers
The day kicked off with a close and competitive matchup between the 3 Headed Monsters and the Ghost Ballers. Former NBA All Star, Rashard Lewis made history scoring the league’s first 4 point shot and led the 3 Headed Monsters in scoring with 27 points while teammate Kwame Brown followed up with a double-double of 17 Pts and 13 rebounds. Rashard also sealed the game with a game winning shot in the 62 to 60 victory.
Game 2: Power vs Tri-State
Game 2 of the day featured the Power vs the Tri-State. The Power’s leading scorer, Deshawn Stevenson, proved that he still has that sweet stroke from 3 point range as he shot 5-10 from three and scored 20 pts total with a game winning three to put the icing on the cake in the 62-58 victory for the Power.
Game 3: 3’s Company vs Ball Hogs
The most anticipated game of the day was the matchup between the Ball Hogs and 3’s Company who was captained and coached by 2016 Basketball Hall of Famer, Allen Iverson. It was clear who the fans came to see judging from the sea of Iverson jerseys in the crowd. Iverson didn’t play many minutes but honestly he didn’t really need to as Basketball unknown, Andre Owens, scored a team high 20 points and grabbed a game high 15 rebounds in 3’s Company 61-51 victory.
Game 4: Trilogy vs Killer 3’s
The matchup between the Killer 3’s and Trilogy was clearly the least competitive judging from the game’s 60-45 scoreline in favor of Trilogy , but it did feature a lot of chippiness, trash talk, and some of the game’s most polarizing personalities in Stephen Jackson, captain of the Killer 3’s and Kenyon Martin, captain of Trilogy. The game wasn’t close on the boxscore but it had everything else that initially made you a fan of the game and having two enforcers such as NBA legends, Rick Mahorn and Charles Oakley coaching this game was only fitting.
If you missed yesterday’s games LIVE at the Barclays Center, then be sure to tune into Fox Sports 1 every Monday night starting tonight at 8pm ET for the primetime premiere of games from the BIG3.
