With the success of his book A Promised Land, it’s very likely for the former United States President Barack Obama to be asked ‘what’s next?’. He was a guest on Complex’s 360 with Speedy Mormon and he was asked many questions during the over 30-minute long video. From the coronavirus pandemic, the lack of journalistic standards among right-wing media outlets, to even giving the approval for rap artist Drake to play him in a movie.
In a 2010 Paper Magazine feature, Drake actually had his eyes on playing Barack Obama in a film. With Drake making his acting debut in the popular Canadian teen-drama tv show Degrassi: The Next Generation, he has a headstart within the acting industry. Him playing the former president seemed to be on his bucket list for a while. “I hope somebody makes a movie about Obama’s life soon because I could play him,” said Drake. “That’s the goal. I watch all the addresses. Anytime I see him on TV, I don’t change the channel, I definitely pay attention and listen to the inflections of his voice. If you ask anyone who knows me, I’m pretty good at impressions.”
With Drake having his eyes on playing the huge presidential role, Obama stating that he wouldn’t mind the rap artist playing him in a movie is just a huge thing. Obama described Drake as a very talented individual in the Complex interview. He also stated that it seems like Drake is able to do anything he wants.
“You know what, Drake has—more importantly, I think—my household’s stamp of approval,” he said. “I suspect Malia and Sasha would be just fine with it.” Obama stated in the Complex interview.
There hasn’t been any news of a new Barack Obama biopic movie being in production, but it’s nice to know that President Obama has his options open on who he wants to play him in the near future.
