Although National Black History Month is coming to an end, every day is an opportunity to support Black-owned businesses and those that offer products to all POC. Let’s be real, in the past, the beauty industry has FAILED and lacked diversity. Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty Collection changed the game by offering such a large shade range and finally, companies were noticing that there needs to be a change. It’s 2018 and I have 5 of my favorite black-owned beauty brands that you have to add to your collection! So get your wallets ready ladies and gents, I have the tea on what products are worth spending your coins on.
Bahi Cosmetics
Organic, Cruelty-Free, Skin Care and pigmented makeup? Three words… SIGN ME UP. Bahi Cosmetics, founded by Danielle Bahi, has come to change the game. Her sunflower sweets serum has drastically transformed customers’ skin. Whether you have acne prone skin or are looking to show your skin some love, Bahi Cosmetics definitely needs to be a part of your collection this year.
Coloured Raine Cosmetics
What is better than a beauty brand whose mission statement is ” Cruelty Free Cosmetics for Every Skin Tone”? From highly pigmented highlighters to exotic and daring lip shades, Coloured Raine Cosmetics (founded by Lorraine Dowdy), offers high-quality makeup, at affordable prices. Their Queen of Hearts palette is a warm-toned lovers dream!
Lash-ah-Tee
Made in the city of Atlanta with love, Latoya McFarlane, created her own luxurious lash company. The brand offers everything from Mink, Silk and Synthetic lashes, with a variety of affordable styles to flatter all eye shapes. Make sure to follow @lashahtee on Instagram to keep up with new lash styles!
Juvia’s Place
Juvia’s Place, founded by Chichi Eburu, is known for their vibrant eyeshadow palettes. The brand offers highly pigmented products at extremely affordable prices. Something unique about their palettes is the attention to detail and how each palette has artwork inspired by African culture. Some of my personal favorites are the Masquerade palette and the Nubian 2 palette.
Carol’s Daughter
I decided the 5th company that I mention should be a natural hair care brand. Lisa Price, the founder of Carol’s Daughter, has an inspiring story on the journey of her hair care brand. Lisa crafted organic homemade products to nourish and style natural hair. The brand’s “Black Vanilla Moisture and Shine Leave-In- Conditioner” is one of my absolute favorites!
