Happiness is an emotion with multiple underlined meanings one can experience throughout their lifetime. As humans, we seek to live the best possible life in the years we each have, constantly on our feet to succeed, create, make friends, form our own families, and love the ones we cherish the most. However, through our attempt to pursue greatness in all regions of life, we come across hurdles that act as immediate setbacks.
We each envision how we wish to exist through our imagination. The dreams, aspirations and goals we hope to accomplish act as a blur of the present moment. We are struck with constant responsibilities and worries which come in the way of enjoying the now. The idea of the future has become ‘forceful’ in the sense that we aim to build a happy life for a time which is uncertain. Therefore, trying too hard to be happy makes us sad in the present as we are living a life of ‘musts’ instead of ‘wants.’
Comparing ourselves to others also plays a vital role in our thought process as people living similar lives as us may be doing better. A healthy rather than a jealous approach would be ideal for our happiness as the focus will be on our own improvement. Failure and negative emotions are all part of the journey, and once we solidly engrave this in our minds, the element of sadness will slowly transform into a positive learning experience.
Focusing on the fundamental aspects life has to offer, we will expand our appreciation every day instead of keeping a narrow perspective for the future. Dreaming big is great, but when it reaches an extent where it becomes an obstacle to happiness for the present moment, we need to sit back and re-evaluate our thoughts. The pathway to happiness is complicated, but not impossible once we discover the hidden beauties each day of our life has to offer.
