BET Network has officially announced the release date for their upcoming streaming app ‘BET+’. The app is set to drop on September 19th. The service is a joint venture with Tyler Perry Studios. It is going to feature exclusive new shows, specials, new programming, and existing movies as well. Tyler Perry’s past movies and shows will be available as well as any future projects that he has coming out per the Viacom deal that he signed a little over two years ago.
Scott Mills, the President of BET Networks, released a statement about the new partnership: “African Americans are the leading consumers of streaming services, with higher SVOD adoption rates than other consumers, which is why we’re so excited to launch a premium product for this under-served audience. BET+ is a natural extension of BET’s linear network, which has been the leading home of black culture for decades. Our curated catalog and original programming will keep the BET+ content offering fresh, fueling subscriber growth, viewership and retention… Tyler Perry is the perfect partner for BET+. The combination of new, original shows and his giant library of popular movies, series and stage plays that Tyler brings to our joint venture creates an amazing product for his large and passionate fan base.”
Tyler Perry also had his own contribution to the purpose of the new service: “In our industry, the way people consume content is constantly evolving. I’ve paid attention to my audience and what works for them and, for that reason, I’m very excited not only about the idea of partnering with BET to create new and exciting content, but also about the idea of giving people a personalized experience through the ability to curate the content they love to consume. On a personal level, this will also be the first time I’ll be working in areas like unscripted and variety television, which will afford me the opportunity to work in fresh, creative ways with new voices and to discover new talent.”
BET+ is going to offer easy access for those users who are on the go and can’t always opt to sit down and watch an entire program from the comfort of their home. When the service launches it will be available on Android, iOS, and other streaming devices as well. This is a busy time for BET considering that they recently launched a Pluto TV channel as well. With all of the things that they have going on, it seems as if the already popular service is heading towards being even more successful.
