Week 5 of BIG3 basketball took place at the sold out UIC Pavilion arena in Chicago, Illinois. The packed venue was filled with some of the most notable names in music such as DMX, Twista, EPMD, and Grammy award winning artist, Chance the Rapper, star of the hit show Empire, Taraji P. Henson , as well as the head of the Nation of Islam, Minister Louis Farrakhan. While the matchups for the week didn’t live up to it’s billing, Week 5 did bring us some notable highlights such as the dominance of arguably the most surprising team in the league as well as a Mike Bibby led comeback.
Game 1: Power vs Ball Hogs
Power and the Ball Hogs are two teams going in opposite directions. The Power picked up their second consecutive win and improved their record to 4-1 on the season which is good for second in the league standings. Cuttino Mobley balled out as he lead the Power in scoring with a game high 21 points on 10-15 shooting from the field. The loss drops Ball Hogs record to 1-4 on the young season.
Game 2: Trilogy vs Tri-State
Rashad McCants continues to live up to expectations of the number 1 overall pick in the BIG3 draft ,but i’m sure many will agree with me when I say that no one expected those expectations to include leading his team to a 5-0 start in a league filled with stars such as Rashard Lewis, Mike Bibby, Chauncey Billups, Stephen Jackson, and Allen Iverson. McCants and the Trilogy continue to outshine and dominate everyone else in the league with their dominant 51-34 victory over the now 1-4 Ball Hogs. Now with Kenyon Martin back in the fold, it’s probably safe to say that his return with the dynamic duo of Rashad McCants and Al Harrington will help this team live up to their name.
Game 3: 3 Headed Monsters vs 3’s Company
Did anybody think that a team led by a Hall of Famer such as Allen Iverson would be among the worst in the league ? 3’s Company once again failed to pick up any momentum in the young season as they were obliterated on the court by the 3 Headed Monsters scoring tandem of Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf and the league’s leading scorer, Rashard Lewis, as the duo combined for 35 of the team’s 51 points in their 51-32 victory over 3’s Company who could probably use the on court company of their player coach, Allen Iverson, who is still hampered by injuries.
Game 4: Ghost Ballers vs Killer 3s
After a day filled with lopsided matchups, the Killer 3’s and Ghost Ballers delivered on a competitive and thrilling game of basketball. Ghost Ballers captain, Mike Bibby, led a thrilling comeback after his team trailed Stephen Jackson and the Killer 3’s 40-30. Bibby’s clutch 4 point shot sparked the run and the Ghost Ballers never looked back in their 50-46 victory.
