On Mar. 30th, 2018, The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) released his newest EP, My Dear Melancholy. The EP, which is 6 original tracks, exemplifies the classic style of The Weeknd: a combination of dance-able club melodies and slower, more emotional songs. The Weeknd’s music is distinguishable from many other artists, but his newest EP features songs that aren’t so distinguishable from many of his previous albums.
Though similar to many of his other releases, My Dear Melancholy is doing surprisingly well with both fans and general listeners — already, his song “Call Out My Name” is No. 1 on Spotify’s USA Top 50, beating out “God’s Plan” by Drake, which holds the No. 2 spot. In fact, songs from My Dear Melancholy occupy numbers 1, 3, 4, 8, 9, and 10 on Spotify’s list — 60% of the Top Ten.
Additionally, the EP is blowing up on Twitter, with users constantly tweeting about the artist’s ‘touching’ lyrics:
The EP is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, Google Play, Youtube, Pandora, Tidal, and Soundcloud.
