What could possibly be more exciting than good, quality music? One simple answer: new, good, quality music. On Friday morning Mr. Pablo himself, Kanye West, delivered just that. The “Louis Vuitton Don” took to his twitter to share that he would be on the Los Angeles based radio station 92.3 with radio personality “Big Boy.” West visited the station for an interview, but of course he had some tricks up his sleeve or in this instance, a new song. Moments before the single was played worldwide, West posted: “Tune into Big Boy’s 92.3 I’m about to play the first single from Cruel Winter.” Immediately following the news, social media went completely insane.
As the world began to prepare themselves for the iconic, ingenious sounds from Mr. West, socialite and wife Kim Kardashian-West also took to twitter to excite the immense twitter audience prior to the release of the song. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star went on saying, “Listening to Kanye live on the radio with Big Boy!!! He’s about to premiere the 1st single off Cruel Winter.” She ended the statement with several fire emojis, continuing to rouse and thrill fans for the single. According to Time Magazine, Yeezy stated he along with his team had been working on the song for over a year. Time also stated that Ye had the beat for over a year and just felt that it “sounded right for this project.”
The single is entitled “Champions (Rounds & Rounds) and features some of G.O.O.D. Music’s hard-hitting artists such as: Big Sean and the newly recruited Desiigner. The song enlisted the likes of other unique, talented artists like Travis Scott, 2 Chainz, Quavo, Yo Gotti, and last but certainly not least, the newly freed Gucci Mane. Along with the powerful presence and charismatic bars of each of these artists, the song delivers expected cocky, authentic verses, autotune, and classic Kanye vibes that we all know and love. The record is definitely a summer banger that can be played at all types of gatherings and functions. It possesses celebratory vibes and feels that people of all ages can relate to. Time also went on to state that Kanye disclosed to Big Boy that there is a dramatically longer version of “Champions” on the album. The highly anticipated Cruel Winter will be the follow up to G.O.O.D Music’s Cruel Summer project, which was released in 2012. According to Rap-Up, the project opened at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. The project sold 250,000 copies in its first week. It also produced exceptional singles such as “Mercy,” “Clique,” and “New God Flow.”
2016 is proving to be a very serious year musically for Ye. Having already released The Life of Pablo earlier this year, the musical genius has hinted at new music multiple times on social media. Earlier this year, through all the twitter rants and late nights, West stated that he has 40 songs with Young Thug and also with Kendrick Lamar. He has also hinted at a new album this summer, and went further releasing the name of this eighth album entitled “Turbo Grafx 16”(for now…). Yeezy’s tour for The Life of Pablo is also set to begin later this year as well.
It is safe to say that Kanye has been killing (and will continue to kill) 2016. However, the only question at hand is: When is Cruel Winter coming Ye? We are ready whenever you are. Following the interview and release of the song on Big Boy’s station, Kanye did not say when the album would come out, but we will continue to vibe to the “Champions” single until further notice.
