It has been nearly two years since Pop/R&B singer Normani has released any music. Now she is back with “Wild Side ” featuring Cardi B. “Wild Side” is produced by various people, including Normani herself and it heavily samples Aaliyah’s 1996 hit single “One in a Million”. The production of the song features a hyperactive drum pattern and a pounding bass line that will make any room shake.
Lyrically the record sees Normani and Cardi both wanting to explore their sexual desires to greater heights. “We can’t just keep talking about it / We think too often about it / We can’t just be cautious about it / I wanna get wild,” Normani sings on the chorus.
In all honesty on the first listen, listeners might think that this song is very boring because it does not feel like it is going anywhere. To genuinely appreciate what this song is offering, you will have to listen to it multiple times. After several spins, the chorus and the song’s throwback beat will hypnotize you like a spell.
The accompanying music video also helps bring the song’s message to life. The Tanu Muino directed video shows Normani doing high-octane choreography in various scenes. At one point in the video, Normani even engages in a sensual dance-off with herself. She then later joins Cardi as they both sexually hold, touch, and grind on each other half-naked.
With this much sexiness being put out into the atmosphere, the streets are going to eat up “Wild Side” like there is no tomorrow. Listeners should expect to hear this song being played at every club this summer. This record has all the right ingredients to turn into a big hit. A Cardi verse + a Sexy Video + an Aaliyah sample = Song of the summer.
