On Apr. 12th, Nicki Minaj dropped “Barbie Tingz,” one of two of her first solo releases since The Pinkprint album. Though Minaj has collaborated with countless artists in the recent months, “Barbie Tingz” and “Chun-Li” are singles that come straight from the artist herself–no help necessary.
The singles are reflective of the same songs that brought her to fame in the first place, full of strictly-business lyrics bursting with brags and boasts. Though Minaj has not been putting out original music in some time, she put down haters with these two songs, which remind us of her well-deserved cocky attitude and ability to release hits.
The hip-hop industry has been recently dominated by Cardi B, taking away Minaj’s spotlight for the moment as Cardi B has topped charts after just releasing Invasion of Privacy. Though “Barbie Tingz” and “Chun-Li” have not topped the charts in quite the same way as Cardi, Nicki Minaj is letting us know that there’s much more to come (hopefully soon).
