Anyone who remembers the mid-2010s can attest to the fact that a few prominent artists began molding a ‘new wave’ of hip hop. Combining aspects of rock and roll, pop, and various other genres. Rap had officially become a melting pot of numerous styles and flows.
As we all know, Lil Uzi Vert, Fetty Wap, and many more, paved the way for a new generation of rappers to garner a ridiculous amount of success and acclaim.
This new wave gave trap beats, melodic vocals, and ad-libs, a new platform to shine and intertwine itself within the fabric of rap and other forms of artistic expression. Not only has this style of rap dominated the hip-hop charts for years now, but it has become a staple of rap in every sense of the word.
Some may call it a regression in artistic expression, and others may call it a rebellion against the status quo. However, one thing is for sure, the controversy garnered heavy attention and support from a new generation of eager listeners.
However, as much as it is tragic, all good things must come to an end eventually.
On Wednesday, Willie Junior Maxwell II, AKA, Fetty Wap, was arrested for multiple drug trafficking charges.
Maxwell was charged with ‘conspiracy’ to pedal various illegal substances into multiple states on the east coast.
Drugs such as cocaine, heroin, crack, and fentanyl were all distributed through various means of transportation. These means of transportation include, but are not limited to, mail, and hidden compartments in various vehicles.
Maxwell was detained by New York police back in October of 2021. He was later released on bail. However, his bail was revoked nearly a year later, in August of 2022, due to threatening an individual on a FaceTime call with a loaded firearm.
Using his established name in the rap scene, Fetty was able to garner even more support through criminal drug trade organizations. This inevitably led to him playing a big role in the pedaling and or bootlegging of illegal narcotics in the United States.
The rapper conspired with multiple others, in the transportation of hundreds of pounds of illicit substances. However, his accomplices have yet to be sentenced as of today.
Willie Junior Maxwell ll, AKA, Fetty Wap, will have his sentence carried out immediately.
