Only an icon like Missy Elliott can release five songs, call it a “collection of songs,” and have fans hyped about it insisting it’s a full album.
On Aug. 22, Missy Misdemeanor Elliott announced via Twitter that her first project in 14 years, ICONOLOGY, would drop at midnight.
ICONOLOGY consist of five songs including her new single, “Throw It Back.” The music video to “Throw It Back” was released hours after announcing the collection of songs and made a statement.
The video expresses different hairstyles, from double dutching with Elliot’s long braids to cheerleaders snatching Afro wigs and using them as pom-poms. It, of course, wouldn’t be a Missy video if there wasn’t a choreography dance while dressed as the Video Music Awards’ Man on the Moon, which she will be performing at on August 26th. She will also be the first female rapper to receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the VMAs.
The project brings catchy bass beats with dancing vibes, something that one would enjoy while being out at a function or simply bumping in the car dancing along with friends. It also brings out a slow, mellow and sexual side of Elliot that speaks for women catering to their needs and how one would want to be treated in a relationship.
Each song begins with an intro of, “this is a Missy Elliot exclusive” and it feels like just that.
ICONOLOGY can be found on all streaming platforms. Check out Missy Elliott’s new music video “Throw It Back” below and let us know what you think.
