Although Earl Sweatshirt confirmed via Twitter on June 26th he didn’t personally disclose of any new song, the world finally got a taste of some new music by the artist. After a long hiatus, Earl’s newest leaked song, “Hat Trick” gave fans an insight and update on how Earl’s been living since the last album release, “I Don’t Like Sh*t, I Don’t Go Outside” in 2015. Even though the song wasn’t personally released by Earl himself, the fans were definitely raging over the melancholic song on social media.

“Hat Trick” was originally heard in Detroit, where Earl performed a session of his old hits along with previewing some new music for the fans back in May. Earl is notorious for creating two songs within one. Many artists like Drake, Big Sean, Kendrick are also known to do this from time to time but with Earl, it’s almost a given. Since his last album, social media and Youtube has put out a lot of new unreleased music to hold up fans while they wait to get their hands on a new album. Earl Sweatshirt’s song, “Solace” from 2015 was written about his grandmother’s passing and his struggles with depression and loneliness. Earl is always very honest and open with his fans and this song is no different.
Lyrically, Earl is undefeated. In this song he speaks on people backstabbing and being shady. In line, “I give until I can’t give// I lend a hand if it’s needed// But these stabs got me bleeding out my back, kid”, Earl seems to be honest with us and himself in knowing he does all he can but people still tend to be shady. In all, the song gives a very good perspective on where Earl Sweatshirt stands today. While an album release date, title, track list and features still remain unknown, we can always hold our standards up high for this MC.
