During the 2020 Grammys we got a glimpse of Lil Nas X and Nas to perform their latest collaboration “Rodeo,” but they didn’t stop there. Lil Nas X released the official video for it on Feb. 6, and it includes different movies mixed in one spooky music video.
The video takes on a vampire theme as he goes on a night adventure while figuring out what’s happening to him after being bitten. It leads him to a rescue place where he meets up with Nas, which then switches to a Matrix theme of choosing between a blue or red pill as green coding falls on the screen.
In the video, you can spot a product shout out to Doritos as one of the characters is placed sitting on a rack eating them, which connects with his Super Bowl commercial. Lil Nas X also takes a moment to observe an Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair before breaking off into a dance with the other vampires.
The “Rodeo” video also resembles Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” with the dancing, leather outfit, red eyes, and full moon in which it ends with.
Many people were expecting Cardi B to be a part of the video, since she was on the original version, and were concerned as to why she was taken off. Lil Nas X took to social media to clear up the rumors by explaining it wasn’t personal, but Cardi B couldn’t do it.
i didn’t “kick” cardi off of rodeo. she couldn’t do the video. we cool tho.
