Hero the Band got their start from a small city and have begun to make their mark on the music industry. The band is a combination of four biological brothers from Decatur, Georgia: Justin aka Ocean, Jeramy aka Goku Love, DJ/Omin aka BamBam, and Nick aka Nikky Jupiter. They stand out because of their individual sound and care-free fashion sense. The band has an upcoming EP and I had the opportunity to speak with them about the journey of their music career thus far.
What made you want to start a band together?
Goku Love: “We just wanted to hear music in different ways and it gave us a sense of being free, wholeheartedly. It was an ode to the music that we grew up with and a compilation of all of the influences that we have had throughout the course of our lives.”
Justin: “As kids, music was the most consistent thing in our lives, we did other things creatively which were supported by our parents, but music was the one thing that really stuck with us.”
What has your family’s support been like throughout your career?
Goku Love: “We have full support from both sides of our family. They supported us full throttle to the point where they were even breaking down contracts that labels approached us with. They’ve really been influential and helped us to mold ourselves business-wise and sharpen our skills.”
What is it like working so closely with your siblings?
Goku Love: “It is our greatest advantage. It gives us a catalog of cons, and we always bring all of our music together. We all write our own stories and when they combine, it becomes a musical novel. It is always fun and exciting, we bounce off of each other and truly get inspired by each other.”
How do you channel your creativity when it comes to your fashion style?
BamBam: “We channel it through our music. When it comes to how we dress, we aren’t afraid to wear whatever we want because, in the music industry, you aren’t fully expressing yourself unless you feel like what you have on represents who you are. Our music represents us, and even if we don’t open our mouths, you can see that you are talking to someone unique.”
Do you ever feel pressure to constantly make music to keep your fans interested?
Nikky Jupiter: “We always believed in working at your own pace. We have such a catalog of music that we are honestly scared that we won’t have enough time on this earth to release it all. This is what we do, we make music all day and night instead of going out and partying. There is never any pressure.”
What is your ultimate goal for your music career?
Justin: “We want to go against the grain of what everyone else is doing. We want to inspire others to always do what they are passionate about whether it is music, or flying into space. HERO symbolically stands for everyone proudly being their own unique selves. We are all humans, and we want to inspire everyone to find their purpose in life.”
On their upcoming EP, fans can expect to hear a fusion of rock and alternative music. The EP is going to be their first complete project since 2017. It will also feature their popular single of the same name, ‘Back to Myself’. They hope that they heal others through this EP and want to continue to give love to the rest of the world.
