Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group (MMG) label has been hard at work and is ready to take music to the next level! With Wale’s fifth studio album, Shine approaching and Meek Mill’s Dreamchasers 4 project coming very soon, the Maybach Music Group (MMG) family continues to grow and flourish. If you are unfamiliar with this group, MMG is Rick Ross’ dynamic label. The elite group contains the talents of artists such as, Meek Mill, Gunplay, Wale, Stalley, Omarion, and many more. Thursday (Jul. 28) the group welcomed its newest wonder, the formerly homeless, California native, Isa Muhammad.
If you’re wondering how this transaction even took place, apparently Muhammad not only met, but also rapped for Ross. In June, while in the streets of Venice, Muhammad stopped Ross and dropped an exceptional impromptu freestyle. While rapping, someone recorded Muhammad as he avidly delivered dope word play to Ross. The video was then uploaded to YouTube and instantly went viral. The video has received over a million views. Blown away by the raw talent, even Rozay himself recorded the young man on his Snapchat handle. Muhammad’s lines and bars were so authentic, so passionate, and so next level that he immediately impressed Ross as he was rapping. Muhammad, who was formerly homeless a few years ago, has been pushing out music this summer and officially found a new home for both himself and his music, MMG.
In a press release on the new signing Ross spoke of Muhammad, his talents, and the overall theme and feel of what MMG is about.
“This was something that I wasn’t expecting, This kid gave me his heart when he was spitting and the internet got a hold of the video I put up on my Snapchat. I wanted to give an opportunity for someone else to be put on – I know so many people in his same position. MMG is about giving back and pushing the culture forward by finding new and real talent. Isa Muhammad will reflect quality rap music and MMG is going to make sure of that.”
MMG’s president, Kendall “Young Sav” Freeman also spoke on Ross’ dream and vision stating, “Ross saw Isa Muhammad and he saw a vision. Isa was raw, authentic and organically talented.”
Isa also posted a video on Instagram with the caption, “signing day.” In the black and white video, Muhammad, dressed in a dashiki, speaks passionately about the opportunity that was given to him. He quickly makes it known that this moment is about African Americans and not just women and alcohol. He also passionately states that he’s not in it for the fame and fortune but truly for the culture.
Although this is a time for absolute celebration, reports are already surfacing that Isa is already in the studio gearing up to release his debut project under the label. The talent that flows through this young man is clear and undeniable. Whatever Ross and MMG have in store for Isa, we are ready. Congratulations Mr. Muhammad, keep pushing and inspiring!
Blessed! Big ups and much respect and love to Ross for giving some an opportunity and a chance. I’ll be checking for this man’s work and hopefully, he’ll help bring back the culture of Hip Hop as it’s needed now more than ever.
