In our latest interview with Skye Morales, she sits down with us to tell us all about her roots, what inspires her, daily routines in the studio, her relationship with Atlanta rapper/singer, Kodie Shane and much more:
Paulette: For starters, what inspires you and what inspired you to start making music?
Skye: The actual music in a general aspect is what really inspired me to be like “Okay, wow this is something I’m interested in doing.” I really like sounds and I’m so in love with listening to instrumentals. So for me, it was like “BOOM”, I can add my voice on to some amazing sounds and then create one big amazing sound. I really love that.
Paulette: What kind of music were you listening to when you were growing up? Did they play in any effect into your sound today?
Skye: Growing up, I listened to a lot of different music from like soft rock to Spanish and like really old music from the 70’s and 80’s. I definitely feel like the music I listened to growing up plays an effect in how I hear things these days. Meaning I’m able to have such an ear for all different types of sounds and therefore I’m not opposed to anything because all the music I like is so different.
Paulette: Being that you’re originally from New York, what made you move to Atlanta and has that had an impact on your music?
Skye: I moved to Atlanta with my mom and she started managing this producer who now, today is my step dad who produces my music. So YES! Haha Atlanta has for sure had an impact on my music.
Paulette: Do you see yourself leaving Atlanta to return back home?
Skye: Hmmm… I love New York. Ill always love New York, but I’m happy about Atlanta. I think it’s a good place to be doing what I’m doing. Eventually, I want a home there for the times when I want to visit or if I have any work to do up there.
Paulette: Who or what drives the motivation behind your lyrical content?
Skye: Myself. When I think about lyrics to a song I think about me. I think about my life and I think about all the other people out there who are gonna be able to relate to me in some shape or form.
Paulette: Explain what butterflies mean to you. Is there a particular reason or motive behind the re occurrences of butterflies throughout your social media?
Skye: Butterflies are so special to me. They really do a hold a special place in my heart because they remind me so much of myself. I feel like I’m a living butterfly. You know, butterflies go through a lot of different stages before they get their wings, but the whole process is so pure and so beautiful.
Paulette: What are the meaning behind some of your tattoos?
Skye: I have this girl on my right arm letting go of a kite and it’s one of my favorite tattoos because I’ve always been one to kind of hold to things and feelings. I know I shouldn’t. It just kind of reminds me that it’s okay to let go. I also have this butterfly on my middle finger and this of course just represents me going through the process of getting my wings.
Paulette: What is the main message you want your fans to take away from your music?
Skye: I’m real. I think that’s so important to me because I want my fans to relate to me so much and know that I see them and I feel them even when they feel like nobody else does. I want them to turn one of my songs on and for them to be like “Wow, she gets it.”
Paulette: Explain the relationship between your team and who is behind you as an artist?
Skye: The relationship behind my team is such a close knit family one. My mom is my manager and then my step dad is my producer, so they’re very protective over me and over who they let in my circle, which I really am thankful for.
Paulette: Have you done any shows or any listening parties in the past for your music?
Skye: Yes I have before and once I drop again I’m ready to get back out there and start doing more shows! I miss the stage I miss feeling everyone’s energy.
Paulette: Will you be featuring your girlfriend, Kodie Shane in any of your music? Do you guys ever create music together in the studio, even just for the fun of it?
Skye: Everything is about timing. Yes eventually your gonna get music from Skye and Kodie together we just wanna make sure it’s amazing and organic.
Paulette: How did the relationship between you and Kodie Shane spark? How long have you two known each other?
Skye: Funny actually, because we met in the studio and from the day we met we’ve been inseparable ever since. I know it sounds cliche, but really that’s how it was for us. Everything with us has been so organic. It’s really great that over time we’ve become best friends and 2 star souls in love. We’ve known each other 2 years now but the first year was only on social media. Then we met in person a year ago and the rest is history.
Paulette: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Skye: 5 years? I want to be on tour getting ready to perform for the people all over in other countries who aren’t able to enjoy music like we are. In five years, I want to have all my wings and be a full grown butterfly.
Paulette: How has the support from your fans helped you throughout your journey in music?
Skye: The support is so amazing. I literally don’t think I could thank everyone enough. Without any of my fans I wouldn’t even be where I am today, which is not even where I’m going to go. My fans mean so much to me, so much. They are my little butterflies.
Paulette: When you’re not in the studio, what is your go-to activity or hang out spot?
Skye: I honestly like being outside. I love nature and love being in tune with it. I love the rain, the wind and the sun. Or, I like to be in the house watching movies. I’m like an either or type of person.
Paulette: When in the studio, do you have any routines or rituals you perform to get yourself in your zone?
Skye: I have to have candles and before I even start recording or doing anything. I’ll sometimes listen to some of my favorite old school songs really loud and just dance all over the room to loosen myself up and get into a vibe.
Paulette: Who would you say you’re currently listening to?
Skye: I really like Kali Uchis these days. I think her vibe her sound is pretty cool.
Paulette: If you had to describe your music in one word, how would you describe it?
Skye: Eclectic!
Paulette: When can we expect a full-length album or project from Skye Morales?
Skye: Very, very, very soon! I promise! Please just keep supporting me, keep loving me, keep sending me positive energy, I want everything to be perfect before I put it out. I love you all!
