When our heart is brimming with emotion and we struggle to find the comforting words we need to hear, artists like Lanita Smith come to the rescue, crooning out soulful tunes.
You may have already heard her talent grace your television screen on Jimmy Kimmel Live! or even at one of the biggest annual music festivals, Coachella.
Listeners can get a more in-depth look at who Lanita Smith is with the release of her debut album, “Remember Me.” This project serves as a follow up to her EP, “Listen to Your Heartbeat,” which was produced by the legendary Don Wos.
“Remember Me” is a telling tale of the experiences of the singer-songwriter and also a glimpse into the stories of the people around her. The lead singles, “Love Can Do” and “Tell Me,” set the tone for the album. Overall, fans can expect an eclectic mix of feel-good medleys and ballads – all designed to be a relatable experience to the listener.

While Smith has been writing songs as early as the age of 6, her first “I made it” moment was being announced as the winner of the 2016 Guitar Center Songwriting Competition.
“I remember walking across the stage after Don Wos called my name as the winner, with the tears rolling down my face, thinking, this is what it feels like for people to love you as an artist and enjoy your music,” she said.
Outside of performing, Smith has taken it upon herself to spread her wealth of knowledge to young people who aspire to be successful in the music industry. The Lanita Smith Music Foundation cultivates the talents of young musicians while instilling an understanding of the business side of the industry.
“Aside from constantly hearing ‘kid you’re talented,’ I didn’t really have any guidance on what it takes to be successful in this career,” Smith said, “So I wanted to create a program to provide that for other young, aspiring artists and musicians.”
“Remember Me” is available for listening on all digital platforms.
