The track provides fans just the right amount of eerie background and the trademark rhyming many have come to love from the genre-breaking rapper.
The track marks Angel Haze’s first piece of music since her second studio album, Back to the Woods in 2015. Heavily influenced by legends like Eminem, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne, Angel Haze has been able to harness her talents and bloom poetic blissful music. Haze made her way into the music limelight with the help of her early mixtapes back in 2010 and has continued to earn a name for herself.
Timed with the release of the single, Angel Haze released a statement about ‘Weight’ on her social media platforms.
Angel Haze says, “When I or anyone else listens to ‘Weight’, I want them to partake in the experience. Every single instrument is a testament to strength and color. It is about how we grow our power. It’s about where to and how we carry everything we’ve had to survive, and then repurposing that energy.
“It took me quite some time to realize my weight, but now I’m too strong to hold. You will be too.”
Angel Haze’s past experiences with poetry and creative writing played a major role in ‘Weight’. The low fi mixed with catchy flow allows Angel Haze to take command and lead the song to the promised land of perfect harmony. The single also comes with a music video is which just as thought-provoking as the single.
The video opens with Angel Haze blacked out with an assault rifle. The imagery of guns plays more into the theme of Angel Haze showing no remorse for her competition. Angel Haze makes a statement.
