After being a 17-time champion while wrestling in WWE, playing in multiple action-packed movies, and voicing some children’s favorite “Moana” character, Maui, Dwanye “The Rock” Johnson will be showing viewers a look into his life growing up in a new family comedy “Young Rock”. This isn’t the first time that a celebrity created a comedy sitcom about their life. “Everybody Hates Chris” premiered in 2005, which was a sitcom about the childhood of actor and comedian Chris Rock. Although some parts of “Young Rock” will be fiction, the majority of the events that will take place in the show are depictions of Johnson’s life growing up.
NBC released a synopsis of the show, which it stated, “Every legend has a beginning. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stars in a larger-than-life family comedy based on outrageous stories of his youth. This coming-of-age journey highlights the unforgettable moments and incredible relationships that took Dwayne from ordinary kid to extraordinary superstar – revealing he’s more like us than we know.”
1 WEEK our season premiere of YOUNG ROCK on @NBC!
This comedy series is so surreal 🙏🏾
When I was 15, I was living in a motel room with a buddy and hustling cars from crackheads – all while kids thought I was an undercover cop in Nashville.

When the idea of having Johnson run for president in the show was brought up by the show’s creator Nahnatchka Khan, Johnson wasn’t sure if he should do the show. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show”, he stated that he didn’t want the show to get “political“. However, with the reassurance of Johnson’s wife Lauren, he decided to go with the idea of him running for president in the show.
The sitcom will star Johnson himself as he’s running for president in 2032. Young actor Adrian Groulx will play Johnson when he was younger. “Following Phil” actor Bradley Constant will take the role of playing Johnson when he was a teenager. While Australian actor Uli Latukefu will be the one playing Johnson as a young adult. Joseph Lee Anderson and Stacey Leilua co-star as parents Rocky and Ata Johnson.
“Young Rock” is set to premiere on Feb 16th at 8 pm EST on NBC.
