Sugar, spice, and everything nice professor Utonium is whipping up a new batch of Power Puff Girls, and this time they’re young adults dreading ever devoting their childhood years to fighting crime. However, the fate of the world is depending on their reunion to save the world.
The Cartoon Network superhero series The Power Puff Girls was originally written by Craig McCracken and aired from 1998-2005 for six seasons. The show revolved around the lives of three kindergarten-aged girls Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup.
Fighting crime around the imaginary city, Townsville, USA is beating up villains like infamous Mojo Jojo – a very intelligent chimpanzee with a hat that covers his exposed brain and a cape.
A reboot of the original series starring Amanda Leighton, Kristen Li, and Natalie Palamides, premiered on Cartoon Network in 2016. This reboot included an older sister of color, Blisstina “Bliss” who was more powerful and dangerous than the three girls. The last aired season, season three finished on June 16, 2019.
Hulu gained exclusive streaming Video On Demand rights to the franchise in 2016, this agreement included the Emmy-nominated reboot series and the full classic library episodes.
This live-action reboot will be written by Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody. Executive producers on the project are Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden via Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros.
CW has a reputation for creating superhero series specifically from the DC Universe and also giving more opportunities for women and persons of color to be on screen.
Fans and patrons are excited about this reboot and surprised it hasn’t happened sooner. There is currently no air date for the series, but be on the lookout for one.
