Seems like it’s time for a more mature spin on the Saturday morning style “cartoons and cereal” era we grew up with.
Fuse Media has decided to explore the world of adult animation with its first adult-oriented animated series: Sugar and Toys. Created by Carl Jones and Brian Ash, producers of popular series The Boondocks and Black Dynamite, Sugar and Toys is marketed by the network as being “a wild new twist on the Saturday morning cartoons we all grew up with—but a whole lot less innocent.” Already set for a ten-episode first season, the comedy series will be composed of half-hour episodes consisting of animated and live action segments that are sure to change our perception of what cartoons are capable of.
Featuring hosted bookend segments by multi-platinum rapper and actor Kyle, who also acts as co-executive producer for the series alongside executive producers Aengus James and Colin King, the series will also include mock toy commercials and PSA spoofs tackling issues and trends that speak directly to the millennial audience it’s aimed at. One part social commentary and the other music culture parody, Sugar and Toys will certainly provide an entertaining experience when it premieres on June 9th.
