If you haven’t already seen FX Network’s highly acclaimed show, Atlanta, you still have time to catch up before the season 2 premiere. Slated to return to our airways on March 1st, Atlanta has had fans waiting anxiously on its return. In the trailer for season 2, which first made its appearance during a commercial break for this past weekend’s Golden Globes, we are vaguely re-introduced to the cast.
From the looks of the moody and somber trailer, it seems like the crew, Earn, Paper Boi, Darius, and Van, are back to their usual — diners, clubs and chillin’. However, there is a scene in the trailer where Darius is mowing the lawn while Earn and Paper Boi are chillin’ on top of a car and there is an alligator that is making its way up to the car. I have never heard of gators in Atlanta but I am super interested to see what, if any, part the gator plays in season 2. While the first trailer does not give any insight on what might happen this season, it does re-establish our interest and fandom for the show.
The background song that plays during the one-minute trailer is nothing short of hypnotizing. The track titled ‘Too Fast’ is performed by the group Sonder. The group is comprised of the Baltimore native singer, Brent Faiyaz, and Detroit and Houston (respectively) production duo, Atu & Dpat. ‘Too Fast’ is guaranteed to stick in your head even after watching the trailer once.
Executive producer and writer, Stephen Glover, revealed to a Television Critics Association panel that the new season was going to be desperate and uneasy. Which is what we could anticipate from the way that the first season ended. Inspired by the Tiny Toons Summer Vacation, Stephen said like the movie, Atlanta will tell a whole story, but in different little parts. Robbin’ Season, which the second season is affectionately called, is a metaphor for where the cast is now, says Stephen.
We cannot wait to see what direction the writers will go in this season and what situations Earn, Paper Boi, Darius and Van find themselves in this go round.
