With the success of Creed II, fans of the popular boxing film franchise will be getting another film soon. Racking up to $241.1 million in the box office and gaining an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with the previous Creed II film. Creed III will be coming to a movie theater (or streaming platform) soon. The first Creed film was directed by critically acclaimed director Ryan Coogler, while Creed II was directed by Steven Caple Jr. Creed III will be directed by the lead actor himself, Michael B. Jordan, which was confirmed by Jordan’s co-star Tessa Thompson.
Thompson who plays Jordan’s girlfriend Bianca in the film confirmed the news during an interview with MTV News. “He is directing the next Creed,” she said when asked about Jordan’s new People title as Sexiest Man Alive. “It’s going to be ammo, I think, for me when he is engaging with me as a director. I’m just going to tell him to dial down the sexiness.”
With Jordan directing Creed III, this will be this year’s People Magazine Sexiest Man Alive directorial debut and many of his co-stars for the boxing film franchise are excited to see what he’ll bring to the table as a director. This opportunity for him is huge compared to his executive producer position in Creed II.
Earlier in 2019, Ivan Drago actor Dolph Lundgren made hints that his character could be returning for the third film. In an interview, the Swedish actor stated, “I’ve heard things about a Creed III. I think Drago is in it somehow.”
Even if Jordan will have a big responsibility of directing the film, he’ll be following the footsteps of Sylvester Stallone. Stallone also went from star to director in Rocky II, III, IV, and 2006’s Rocky Balboa.
Creed II left viewers with Jordan’s character “Donnie” being victorious at the end, but the young boxer now has to handle the growing pains of becoming a father and continuing to carry the legacy of his late father and creating his own legacy. Stallone won’t be returning for the third film, but many viewers wouldn’t be shocked to see a quick appearance from him. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Zach Baylin will write the script for Creed III, Baylin also had the huge opportunity to write the script for Serena and Venus’s biopic.
As of now, there hasn’t been any more news about Creed III, with the global pandemic, it’s unsure when they’ll start filming for the movie. At the moment, a release date for the film has not be announced yet.
