Issa Rae has been working her way to the top. She went from being a YouTube sensation on the web series The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl, to an actress receiving accolades from pronounced figures in the acting world.
The actress can now add another job to her resume, as she just landed her first big movie gig. Many know the star from her role on HBO’s popular hit comedy series Insecure, which was nominated for a Golden Globe award early this year. This time around, Issa Rae has nabbed a gig alongside famous actor Bill Hader that is set to hit all big screens nationwide. The actress recently signed on to star in Empress of Serenity, a comedy-drama movie, produced by Stephen Chbosky and directed by Jesse Andrews.
According to Variety.com, “Hader plays a man whose elaborate plan to win back his ex-wife is upended when he is guilted into a month-long mega-cruise with his widowed father. Rae plays a reclusive kindred spirit in the cabin next door who becomes both the aid and the obstacle in his plan.”
Empress of Serenity is set to start filming in August. Congrats to Issa Rae, as she is the real definition of, “started from the bottom, now we here.”
