A fresh leak has surfaced regarding Sony’s highly anticipated PS5 Pro, shedding light on the console’s potential name and design. According to an article from Dealabs by trusted PlayStation insider billbil-kun, the upcoming mid-generation refresh will officially be called the PS5 Pro. A sketch based on the console’s alleged packaging reveals a design similar to the PS5 Slim, featuring a white exterior with three distinct black stripes along its center. The PS5 Pro also includes two USB-C ports and a power button on the front, but appears slightly thicker than the PS5 Slim.
Interestingly, the leaked design suggests that the PS5 Pro may not include a disc drive, though it remains unclear if Sony plans to release an alternative version with one. As for the controller, the base DualSense model is expected to remain unchanged.
The PS5 Pro has been rumored for some time, with earlier reports pointing to a November release. Spec leaks from March suggested enhancements to the console’s CPU and GPU, promising improved rendering speeds and advanced ray tracing capabilities. Additionally, the PS5 Pro is rumored to feature a custom machine learning architecture and an AI accelerator, alongside a new upscaling/antialiasing technology known as PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).
This hardware upgrade is expected to reignite interest in the PlayStation ecosystem, particularly with the anticipated release of “Grand Theft Auto 6” in 2025. The PS5 Pro’s launch, if it happens in November 2024, would follow the pattern set by its predecessor, the PS4 Pro, which was released three years after the PS4.
As Sony faces declining PS5 sales, the company seems poised to reinvigorate the market with the PS5 Pro, aiming to extend the console’s lifecycle and maintain its competitive edge.
