You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to develop a master plan towards success. All it takes is hard work, a tenacious approach and not to mention the will to never give up no matter how high the stakes are. Kasim Peterson is a clear example of what it takes to be successful in life.

Not only is Peterson a self-taught graphic designer with a lengthy resume, he is really making a difference with his gifts. Reigning as the Digital Marketing Director for MMG, Kasim is on a path that others dream about. Recently I had the opportunity to talk with him about his upbringing, future goals, and why authenticity is so essential for victory.
JT: Before we start this interview, I want to say thank you for the opportunity to speak with you. Where are you from and how did your upbringing shape you into the individual you are today?
KP: Your welcome and I’m from Virginia and ever since I was small, my grandfather instilled in me greatness from the beginning. Ever since I accepted nothing less.

JT: How important is it to give back to the community? Are you involved with any programs that help those in need?
KP: Yes it is very important! I do have some projects I am working on that the younger generation can benefit from. One project, in particular, is called Indie Impact. There, kids will have the chance to learn marketing and branding skills.
JT: If Marketing was not your field, what would be your career and why?
KP: As a child, I always loved watching commercials and I wanted to do that. Being an architect was always my dream.

JT: What does TRUE URBAN CULTURE mean to you?
KP: True urban culture means AUTHENTICITY. I love how Blacks express our culture. TRUE TO US, PRESERVE IT FOR US AND KEEP IT FOR US.
JT: What mark do you feel as though you can leave on the hip-hop community?
KP: Thinking outside the box, keeping things fresh and being a complete media outlet.
JT: Because of your hard work and skills, what other doors opened up?
KP: I worked with jewelry companies, Epic, Roc Nation, Atlantic, planes, Checkers, Wing Stop, Rich Hair Care, Belaire and of course MMG. Because I am self-taught and hands-on, I bring a much different approach to the table. I feel as though I am of a high pedigree and there is nothing wrong with recognizing your worth.

JT: What advice can you give to those who want to pursue their dreams but lack resources?
KP: NO EXCUSES! As long as you have internet, you can make it happen.
