Within this year, the fashion industry was forced to change in many ways. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many fashion designers were forced to do virtual fashion shows. As coronavirus cases continue to increase in many countries, fashion designers are creating newer ways so people could see their latest clothing line. Chanel took it upon themselves to even only have one guest in the audience of their fashion show, which that guest was actress Kristen Stewart. It seems like many fashion houses are beginning to think outside the box when it comes to displaying their clothes. Which, one of those creative ways is hosting a fashion show in the middle of the desert. Fashion house Saint Laurent hosted their Summer 2021 fashion show in a mysterious desert.
A video for Saint Laurent’s fashion show was released on Dec 15th, where the video starts with seeing the brand’s logo the first couple of seconds with the sunny desert location in the background. It then displayed many models walking through different parts of the sand with a soft tune in the background.
In the YouTube description of the fashion show, they described the fashion show and Saint Laurent Summer 2021 collection in three short sentences. It was described as, “An invitation for escapism. A desert, its soft and infinite landscape. The collection is dedicated to the freedom of movement.”
This was Saint Laurent’s creative director Anthony Vaccarello’s second show in a desert type of setting. His first fashion show set in a desert setting took place before the pandemic in a desert in North Africa. It seemed like he was already comfortable with the hot and sandy setting for a fashion show. This time, many models were walking through the sand with heels and keeping six feet away from each other as they walked. Just so they can maintain the proper social distancing protocol for Covid-19. Vaccarello also didn’t tell reporters where this fashion show was located. However, he did explain his decision on why he chose a desert to display Saint Laurent’s Summer 2021 line.
“The desert, to me, symbolizes that yearn for serenity, open space, a slower rhythm,” Vaccarello explained
The clothes that were being modeled during the show was described by Vaccarello as softer and more gentle. Fashion reporters described this summer collection as a look in past Saint Laurent collections. Which many people thought that because Vaccarello inspired the Summer 21 collection being from YSL archives. The models also wore jewelry from Claude Lalanne, a french sculptor who died last year at the age of 93. Lalanne collaborated with Yves Saint Laurent in 1996, where the pair created a couture collection. With inspiration from YSL archives and jewelry from the late Claude Lalanne, the summer collection is perfect for a fashion lover that adores pieces from the past.
As the fashion industry continues to change and one of the next fashion week being Paris Fashion Week, many fashion lovers are excited to see how these designers and brands expand their creativity level. Especially when it comes to displaying their new fashion line.
