On Mar. 25th, 2018, high-fashion brand Louis Vuitton announced its newest line, the Men’s Summer 2018 collection, via Twitter. The account tweeted multiple photos, short videos, and gifs of some of the fashion, which is influenced by a “love of travel,” according to Louis Vuitton.
The contemporary new collection features shirts, shorts, and various accessories, such as bags, belts, hats, and sunglasses all showing a simultaneously colorful and masculine theme. Louis Vuitton’s newest campaign focuses on what they call “the spirit of travel:” lighthearted, colorful, and wearable looks that are ready to travel with their wearer (i.e., perfect for summer 2018). Though they fall under the same freedom theme, the men’s and women’s summer 2018 collections differ greatly in their looks, with the men’s focusing on a more streamlined look.
In addition to releasing their newest line, Louis Vuitton also welcomed Virgil Abloh to their team. According to Louis Vuitton, Abloh will be the new Men’s Artistic director, and “his first show for Louis Vuitton will take place in June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris.” On Louis Vuitton’s website, Abloh stated that “It is an honor for me to accept the position of Men’s Artistic Director for Louis Vuitton. I find the heritage and creative integrity of the House are key inspirations and will look to reference them both while drawing parallels to modern times.” According to the New York Times, Abloh also made history as the first African-American designer for their men’s line.
