Within the past 12 months, nearly everything has changed within the fashion industry. With the plethora of new trends that have emerged this year, I find it surprising how many questionable ones are held onto. From patterns, brands, articles of clothing, and accessories, the following fashion trends are cheugy, in other words, way past their expiration date.
Skinny Jeans
Choosing to wear tight, suffocating pants over baggy ones is simply strange to me. Not only are baggier jeans more comfortable, but they also don’t hug your ankles awkwardly as skinny jeans do. On top of that, the overall tightness paired with low-top shoes curates an even more horrendous outfit that isn’t proportionally appealing. This pair of ribbed biker jeans is one of the most horrendous kinds of skinny jeans that we need to ditch ASAP.
Dr. Martens
Specifically, the “Jadon platform boots”, these shoes have received way too much hype as they are no more special than any other black combat boots. Priced at $200+, these boots are overpriced, overworn, and in need of retirement.
Extremely High Waisted Pants
Regardless of whether they are jeans, dress pants, or shorts, extremely high wasted bottoms are not it. Instead, opt for mid to low rise pants which are more flattering and breathable. No need to have your pants reach all the way up to your rib cage.
Scrunchies
When worn on a wrist, these hair ties ruin every outfit. Especially big obnoxious scrunchies, they are simply childish and not fashionable whatsoever.
Patch Work Jeans
Though not all patchwork jeans should go, this specific pair of pants have been seen on social media way too many times. Coming in a few other colorways, it seems like every other sorority girl owns at least one pair of these tricolored bottoms.
Colorful Marble Print
Going off of sorority girl fashion, this swirly, colorful, marble pattern has been overused one too many times. With every article of clothing imaginable covered in this fabric, I don’t see any reason to continue using it any longer.
Butterflies
From decals to the actual shape of a shirt, the use of butterflies in graphics has become basic. This obsession with butterflies has been ongoing since before this last year which means it’s definitely time to say goodbye.
Bass Pro Shops Trucker Hats
Once again, we see a trend within Gen-Z street style that has overstayed its welcome. The fact that this accessory reminds me of every single Tik-Toker pretty much speaks for itself. At the end of the day, these hats come off as tacky and unoriginal.
